Description: Dulcinea opened on April 1, 1996 at 2 South Dubuque Street, Iowa City, Iowa. Sandra Navalesi, who previously owned a cleaning business for 11 years, had a dream to open this great little boutique featuring contemporary clothing for women. With no prior retail experience, but a love for fashion and for people, she created the concept of Dulcinea. With help from her older sister who owns a boutique in California, Sandra set out to make her dream a reality. Her unique concept was, and continues to be, to create an atmosphere where women can come in and feel welcome, comfortable, and at ease. No stuffiness here! The clothing, as she describes it, is for "cool" women of all ages and she strives to provide something for everyone. In 2005 Sandra and her husband John decided to start a new adventure in California. dulcinea 12401 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, California opened in May. Clothing and style are fun and important to Sandra, but it is even more important to her to provide a warm and friendly environment for women to shop in. What does "Dulcinea" mean? The name embodies the feeling that Sandra strives to convey. Here it is...it is a beautiful story.... Dulcinea is the plain peasant girl whom Don Quixote imagines to be a beautiful lady and falls in love with. Perhaps you are familiar with the musical, Man of La Mancha. It's a beautiful story about a medieval knight who meets a woman of the street. She's being validated in her life-style by all of the people in her life. But this knight sees something else in her, something beautiful and lovely. He also sees her virtue, and he affirms it, over and over again. He gives her a new name - dulcinea - a new name associated with a new paradigm. At first, she utterly denies it; her old scripts are overpowering. She writes him off as a wild eyed fantasizer. But he is persistent. He makes continual deposits of unconditional love and gradually it penetrates her scripting. It goes down into her true nature, her potential, and she starts to respond. little by little, she begins to change her life style. She believes it and she acts from her new paradigm, to the initial dismay of everyone else in her life. later, when she begins to revert to her old paradigm, he calls her to his deathbed and sings that beautiful song, "The Impossible Dream," looks her in the eyes, and whispers, "never forget, you're Dulcinea.

In addition to our original store in the Farmers Market, you'll find the distinctive Du-Par's logo in Studio City (1948), Thousand Oaks (1961) and at our newest restaurant and bakery in West Hollywood (1999), featuring a full bar, patio dining and a champagne brunch.
