Charities for this event
Our charitable partners for this years festival are the Lopez Foundation, the East Valley Multipurpose Senior Center, ARC, and North Hollywood Zoo Magnet.
The Lopez Foundation was started by actor/comedian George Lopez to help underprivileged children and adults confronting challenges in education and health. In addition, the Lopez Foundation promotes awareness about kidney disease and organ donation. Proceeds from the Fourth of July Festival will be used to send children with kidney disease to special, medically supervised summer camps. http://thelopezfoundation.org/
The East Valley Multipurpose Senior Center provides many services to homebound seniors, including delivery of hot lunches five days a week, grocery shopping, home care (everything from doing dishes and laundry to making beds, bathing and dressing), wheelchair accessible transportation for medical appointments and personal errands, and a handyworker service that repairs windows, provides painting services, and more. In addition, the center itself is a mecca for active seniors. There is an adult day program, weekday lunch and entertainment, exercise classes, day trips, free tax preparation, flu shots, legal assistance and much more.
The Center has lost thousands in public funding during the last few years due to state and city budget cuts and funds raised through the Fourth of July Festival help cover the cost of these worthwhile programs. http://www.vic-la.org/Programs/MultiPurposeSeniorCenters/EastValleyMPC/tabid/523/Default.aspx
ARC promotes the welfare, protection, education and advancement of individuals with developmental disabilities. It is designed to assess the ability and potential of each person, then develop and implement a regimen of activities calculated to help achieve his/her full potential for mental, emotional, physical and spiritual development. http://www.arcandadults.com/
Volunteers for the Festival are members of the North Hollywood High School Music Department and Zoo Magnet, as well as their families. Proceeds from the event will also go to both of these organizations. In the past, funds raised by the Festival have been used to send students to music competitions and to purchase much needed equipment.
